Kevyn Aucoin | Sculpting & Contour Powder Review

Most of you, may not have heard of Kevyn Aucoin's brand before and neither had I until around a year ago. I don't use his products in my everyday make-up routine whatsoever until I discovered this sculpting powder.

Before my holiday to New York I went into my local Space NK as I had ran out of bronzer...and the result was I left with contouring products. I was browsing and saw a NARS bronzer in the shade 'Laguna'. I know, it's been around for a while but i'm very late on trying it! The assistant recommended that I tried the Kevyn Aucoin sculpting powder due to me wanting minimal shimmer and more matte brown look. He placed some on my cheekbones so I could see the contouring effect and I was amazed at how defined my cheekbones were. Ordinarily I use the 'Sculpt and Slim' contour and highlight duo from Daniel Sandler which achieves a more natural contour.

I purchased the powder in shade 'medium' and I must say the packaging was very pretty. The powder came enclosed in a small golden and extremely shiny package which you opened to reveal the product. you can see, the product is smaller than most high-end or high street powders/bronzers. Therefore, i was not anticipating the £35 price tag. For the whole day I felt fairly negative about the cost I had spent on a product of that size the day before my holiday.

The next day when in New York, I tried the powder to sculpt my cheekbones and I fell in love! It became entirely worth the price tag to me. The pigmentation is not overly strong so you can choose the strength and level of the contour you want. It is certainly a buildable product and can be used for natural contours or heavy definition on your cheekbones. The colour is 100% matte, there is no shimmer in the powder at all causing a very sculpted look. I know, for the price you can find a duo with highlighter and powder together for pretty much the same cost that works well for you. But to me, this gives a much nicer finish than any contouring powder I have used before.

As far as I know, Kevyn Aucoin is only stocked at Space NK stores in the UK and I am aware not many people are generally aware of this brand as he isn't as well-known as NARS or MAC so I am happy to publish images of this powder before/after if requested.
